Description
In 2009 City of Hope was ranked among "America's Best Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report, and is a leading center for cancer research and treatment. A $2,500 grant was made in March of 2010 to provide one year of funding for City of Hope's new yoga and meditation classes, which are offered free of charge to its cancer patients. Meditation and yoga have been shown to alleviate the physiological and physical stress associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment. Such mind-body interventions help patients learn how to clear the mind of stressful or anxious thoughts, how to practice mindfulness and deep breathing, and how to stretch and move their bodies to relieve aches and pains. Results / Update
Your 2010 grant has helped City of Hope expand our yoga and meditation program by 50 percent. With your support these classes have been offered free of charge to all City of Hope patients and their families -- helping them to achieve physical and mental relaxation during an extremely difficult time.
City of Hope's yoga and meditation program is an exemplary model for our institution's credo, "there is no profit in curing
the body if in the process, we destroy the soul." Your support has helped to improve the quality of life for many patients
over the past year. Thank you for your commitment to promoting mindfulness through meditation and yoga for cancer patients
and their caregivers.
