Description
In August, 2010 the Lenz Foundation granted Pema Karpo Meditation Center $10,000 in matching funds if PKMC raised $50,000 by the first quarter of 2012. To help Pema Karpo raise $50,000 and develop ongoing fundraising skills, the Lenz Foundation provided fundraising training to Pema Karpo through Lynne Twist and the Soul of Money Institute. Grant funds will be used to provide much-needed additional meditation space for a growing Tibetan Buddhist sangha. Pema Karpo Meditation Center is located in Memphis, Tennessee and was founded in 2008 by Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist scholar and monk educated at Namdrolling Shedra in India. Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche has made Memphis, Tennessee his home and his seat of dharma activities. Results: Pema Karpo Meditation Center has applied the fundraising tools so generously provided through the Frederick P. Lenz Foundation by Lynne Twist and the Soul of Money Institute staff and consultants, and is well on the way to raising the funds necessary to receive the matching grant!
Description
In September, 2011 the Lenz Foundation granted Pema Karpo Meditation Center (PKMC) $3,000 in a "Fund the Fundraising" grant. Funds were provided to use in Pema Karpo's "Go Green 2 Get Green" fundraising project. PKMC members are cleaning and decluttering their homes, neighborhoods and the environment, and collecting and repairing items to sell through MissionFish, E-Bay's non-profit sales arm. The $3,000 from the Lenz Foundation is paying for cleaning and repair supplies, for postage for shipping the sold items, and for mileage expenses. Once Pema Karpo has made its goal of paying the mortgage, the Lenz Foundation will match the $3,000 provided in this grant with an additional $3,000.Results: Pema Karpo Meditation Center is collecting, repairing and selling items on E-Bay and and applying the proceeds toward our mortgage. This project is also a vehicle to help build the sangha and to practice compassion and patience as we fund raise. Thus, the project and the grant funds are helping Pema Karpo Meditation Center in a variety of ways!
