Description of Organization:
Buddhist Geeks was founded in 2006 with the purpose of “Evolving Dharma.” Programs include a free audio podcast, a YouTube video channel and open-source practice guides, a community of practice, a series of 10-week virtual trainings, a virtual retreat program, and 1-2 in-person meditation retreats per year.
In 2022, a Support Grant in the amount of $2,000 (in addition to the Hemera Foundation grant of $20,000) was awarded to Buddhist Geeks to support the new “Beloved Teachers” open-source podcast series, aimed at exploring the true nature of the teacher-student relationship, while preserving the oral history of Buddhism in the 21st century. Each episode of this series involves an Interviewer speaking with a student who will be invited to share intimate memories and reflections of one of their beloved dharma teachers. Interviewers only speak with students of Beloved Teachers who are no longer physically alive. The sessions will be recorded live via video chat, when possible, to convey as much detail as possible.
