Description of Organization

The Mindfulness Peace Project offers programs integrating mindfulness and meditation to people in very difficult situations. Its mission is to cultivate the fundamental sanity and dignity in individuals. This commitment manifests as an appreciation of the richness of every situation, even those that seem confused.

The Mindfulness Peace Project oversees three distinct programs, all based on the practice of mindfulness. Ratna Peace Initiative presents instruction in traditional Buddhist mindfulness as well as three correspondence courses based on Buddhist texts. Veterans Peace of Mind is a multifaceted secular program of meditation instruction and discussion, meditation and working with horses for veterans suffering from PTSD and other military traumas. The third program, Solitary Confinement, provides secular mindfulness practice and a supporting correspondence course for inmates in solitary confinement. The practice not only helps inmates cope with the isolation and desolation of solitary, it helps build psychological and emotional tools for meeting the challenges of re-entry. Many facilities lack any inmate preparation for re-entry back into the community.

Grant(s) Awarded

In 2017, a grant in the amount of $9,000 was awarded to assist in the continuation of the Veterans Peace of Mind Project.
