Description of Organization
Pema Karpo Meditation Center was founded in 2008 by Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist scholar and monk educated at Namdrolling Shedra in India. Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche has made Memphis, Tennessee his home and his seat of dharma activities.
In 2017, a grant in the amount of $10,000 was awarded to assist Pema Karpo in the expansion of their 7 Key Elements for Success Program for underserved communities in the larger Memphis area who would benefit from the teachings of mindfulness and the teachings of Buddha.
In 2011, a grant in the amount of $3,000 was awarded in a “Fund the Fundraising” grant. Funds were provided to use in Pema Karpo’s “Go Green 2 Get Green” fundraising project.
In 2010, a grant in the amount of $10,000 was awarded in matching funds if PKMC raised $50,000 by the first quarter of 2012. To help Pema Karpo raise $50,000 and develop ongoing fundraising skills, the Lenz Foundation provided fundraising training to Pema Karpo through Lynne Twist and the Soul of Money Institute. Grant funds were used to provide much-needed additional meditation space for a growing Tibetan Buddhist sangha.
