Description of Organization
The mission of the Piper’s Angels Foundation is to support and improve the lives of families in the cystic fibrosis community by raising awareness through education, offering life expanding activities, providing urgent financial support, and funding critical research. The Unmasking Mindfulness Program increases positive energy and happiness in day to day actions in the cystic fibrosis community by incorporating meditation and mindfulness into the heavy burden of daily treatment. The Program is designed to provide a comprehensive healing practice to those who battle cystic fibrosis. The program utilizes live online webinars, educational video content, and in person one-on-one instruction to provide a platform for coping tools in the CF community. Isolation is the hidden monster in the cystic fibrosis community. Beyond facing a progressive terminal disease that places an immense physical, emotional, and financial burden on the patients and families, researchers have found that people with CF and the parents who take care of them are more likely to experience depression than people in the general population. Those who battle cystic fibrosis carry bacteria that can be deadly to others with CF so they are not allowed to be around one another. Such isolation prevents CF patients from experiencing compassion at its most intimate level among those who know their challenges best.
In 2019, a grant was awarded for $2,500 to assist with operating expenses to support the Unmasking Mindfulness Program.
