Description of Organization
San Francisco Education Fund was founded in 1979 in response to the decimation of public-school funding in California resulting from Proposition 13. SFEF soon began giving grants to educators to support their professional development and enhance their classrooms grant-making. San Francisco School Volunteers was founded in 1963 as San Francisco’s first nonprofit dedicated to engaging community members as volunteers in public schools. In 2009, San Francisco School Volunteers merged into SFEF. This merger integrated their programs and amplified SFEF’s ability to address educational challenges facing public school students in San Francisco.
Grant(s) Awarded
In 2018, a grant in the amount of $7,500 was awarded to San Francisco Education Fund in order to enhance their Mindful Arts San Francisco program by bringing volunteer Mindfulness Educators into San Francisco Unified School District Classrooms using storytelling, theater, and art activities to convey the principles of mindfulness. Funds from the Lenz Foundation will be utilized to hire a part time program manager to the increase the number of students who can participate in the program.
