Description of Organization
Founded 25 years ago in response to personal tragedy, SPIRIT SERIES seeks to equip pre-teens and adolescents—grades four through eleven—with the mindfulness and self-efficacy required to meet challenge and adversity at a critical crossroads in their lives. Using the profound power of story to awaken compassion, the SERIES celebrates the indomitable human spirit and builds bridges to our common humanity. The current crisis facing America’s youth has, in their view, made the organization’s three-fold mission more urgent than ever:
• To advance a new transformative paradigm in K-12 education
• To empower a generation of students with vital life skills and inspiration
• To fortify our young people for a future as successful and civic-minded adults.
Grant(s) Awarded
In 2026, a donation for $1,500 was awarded to support 150 sixth grade students from under-resourced L.A. area schools to study, co-write, stage and perform “Buddha Walks”, an inspirational one-act retelling of the ancient Great Renunciation story. As students immerse themselves in Prince Siddhartha’s journey to find a cure for life’s suffering, they discover core concepts of Eastern philosophy—mindfulness and compassion— building academic skills and vital self-awareness at a critical crossroads in their lives.
