Description of Organization

Tergar Meditation Community teaches practices that cultivate awareness, compassion, and wisdom, and support a diverse, international community of practitioners at all levels of commitment and experience. Tergar offers two main programs: The Joy of Living, suitable for all meditators at all levels; and The Path of Liberation, suitable for those who wish to pursue Buddhism as a lifelong practice. In addition to the essential programs and courses for each of these programs, additional offerings are often made available by individual instructors, based on a specific community need or interest. The programs are offered primarily through in-person retreats, workshops, and seminars and through online courses and other digital resources.

Grant(s) Awarded

In 2019, A Women in Buddhism grant was awarded to offset development costs for a first-of-its-kind “Pilgrimage to Wisdom: An Experiential Journey into the Feminine.” The program was a transformative journey through Nepal and Tibet, exploring the feminine in Himalayan Buddhism. Co-led by Tergar instructors Myoshin Kelley and Antonia Sumbundu, as well as Buddhist scholar Justin Kelley, the trip included visits to locations central to archetypal, historical, and contemporary manifestations of the feminine within Himalayan Buddhism.
