Description of Organization
The Healing WELL, provides a “calm in the storm” to homeless and marginally-housed people in one of the poorest neighborhoods in San Francisco, the Tenderloin. They offer daily programs helping their participants develop inner-awareness, coping skills, and greater social connection so they can step forward in their lives with more stability and hope. They are committed to honoring the innate dignity and goodness of every person. Guided and inspired by the wisdom traditions of both East and West, they honor the truths found in spiritual perspectives. They keep humanity, care and compassion at the forefront of well-being. A few years ago, a wellness center in San Francisco was abruptly closed. With the help of a large grant from a foundation, and by securing a fiscal sponsor, Community Initiatives, the Healing WELL was born.
Grant(s) Awarded
In 2018, The Healing WELL was awarded a grant in the amount of $10,000 to continue to offer more comprehensive healing and recovery programs for their community and to continue to promote wellness in the broader neighborhood. A critical component of the Healing WELL’s mission is building community wellness. They have been piloting off-site programs — bringing Yoga and Meditation classes into residential hotels and community centers and developing additional programming, both on- and off-site.
