Description of Organization
Founded in 1975 by the Reverend Khyongla Rato Rinpoche, a scholar and reincarnate lama of the Gelugpa order of Tibetan Buddhism, The Tibet Center provides a place where members and the general public can explore Buddhist teachings and practices as well as those of other faith communities. Since its inception, The Tibet Center has been a core contributor to the New York metropolitan Dharma community, bringing His Holiness the Dalai Lama to New York City on six occasions; promoting strong relationships in the interfaith community and offering free classes on a weekly basis.
In 2018, a grant in the amount of $15,000 was awarded to The Tibet Center to augment their Dharma Lecture Program. The Tibet Center’s Dharma Lecture Program presents teachings of the Buddha (wisdom & compassion) free of charge to the greater NY /NJ Metropolitan community. The Lenz Foundation grant will assist with various expenditures including; New York and New Jersey classroom rentals, audio visual archiving and honorarium travel expenses.
