Description of Organization:

TLC Transitional Life Care, an end of life education and support program in the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition, was founded on 9/26/2014 and began presenting public events in March of 2015. The organization was authorized by the late Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche, a Buddhist master from Tibet.  TLC has organically expanded from providing small events to larger, well attended “in person” presentations, and more recently internationally attended Zoom events that sometimes include over 400 participants at a time. The programs are now mainly live streamed. This non-profit has slowly grown due to the efforts of a dedicated Executive Director and small group of volunteers. TLC Transitional Life Care’s mission is to offer education and support to those who wish to deepen their understanding and spiritual awareness, especially focusing on the concerns related to the end of life. Resources are available in order to assist those who are interested in, preparing for, and experiencing the final transition, and to the families, friends, and caregivers of those approaching death and throughout the dying process, including bereavement.  They are motivated by a desire to ease suffering and offer comfort and support, and the desire to acknowledge and facilitate opportunities for spiritual understanding and deeper practice. TLC’s motto is “Caring for End of Life Transitions in the Buddhist Tradition.”

Grant(s) Awarded

In 2024, a Women in Buddhist grant in the amount of $10,000 was awarded to support  TLC’s mission to serve those who wish to deepen their understanding and spiritual awareness regarding matters related to the end of life. TLC is women-led. 83% of participants and attendees are women. A variety of programs are offered on both spiritual and secular levels.. Although events are intended for everyone ,it has been found that women are more likely to attend the events, ask questions, and talk about their own and their families’ situations. When programs by female Tibetan or western Buddhist teachers, registration numbers reflect great interest by women. Because of this, TLC will host more events in the future by women and follow up the teachings with “Deep Chat” support group talks on the topics discussed.
