Description of Organization
Vien An Buddhist Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) religious organization dedicated to preserving and teaching the Buddha’s Dharma to the Vietnamese-American community and the broader public in the National Capital Region. Their mission is to provide a safe and welcoming temple where individuals and families can engage in Buddhist worship, meditation, cultural education, youth development, and community service. As a spiritual and cultural anchor for immigrants and future generations, Vien An Temple seeks to nurture compassion, mindfulness, and moral responsibility. Through religious services, meditation classes, children’s programs, and interfaith activities, they strive to promote peace, resilience, and harmony in the wider community.
Grant(s) Awarded
In 2026, a grant of $3,300 was awarded to support a structured program aimed at bridging the gaps and offering both cultural continuity and innovative engagement with Buddhism in America. Many Asian American youth face identity struggles, cultural disconnection, and mental health challenges. Older generations, meanwhile, seek ways to transmit Buddhist wisdom to their children in an American context.
