Description of Organization

The mission of Walls Turned Sideways is to build bridges that connect people in prison, their families, artists, and other community members using art, exhibitions, and political education with a focus on collective liberation, healing and abolition. Their work is guided by the following principles: Abolition – They commit to imagining and practicing new forms of accountability where healing and meeting people’s needs are at the forefront. They actively work against systems that incarcerate and enact violence on our communities and we commit to building up resources that do not rely on punishment as a solution to harm. They work to undo the violence of white supremacy in all its forms including but not limited to racism, sexism, classism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia.
