Grant(s) Awarded

In 2006, a grant in the amount of $30,600 was awarded in order to complete, upon the passing of Buddhist scholar and teacher Khempo Yurmed Tinly,  a single volume of  a project to translate ancient Buddhist writings and analyze their contents with modern forms of American Buddhism, as represented by the works of Dr. Frederick Lenz (“Rama”).  ODN determined that there were sufficient completed materials authored by Khempo to produce a single volume suitable for publication.

In 2004, a grant in the amount of $5,000, in conjunction with an interest free $100,000 loan, was awarded to support a  four-day teaching event at Miami, Florida, conducted by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.   An additional $100,000 interest-free loan was awarded to support the event itself.  Proceeds from tickets sales repaid the loan in full..

In 2003, a grant in the amount of $56,000 was awarded  for the purpose of financing a pilot project which sought, in a scholarly manner, to reconcile modern American Buddhist and meditation practice with ancient Tantric Vajrayana Buddhism. The late Buddhist scholar and teacher Khempo Yurmed Tinly Rinpoche led the project to translate ancient Buddhist writings and analyze their contents with modern forms of American Buddhism, as represented by the works of Dr. Frederick Lenz (“Rama”).
